Prints, Prints, and More Prints!

So who doesn’t love a crazy printed pant?  What’s not to love – color, drama, and function.  Printed pants are great because they allow you to express your more colorful side, and at the same time they have things like pockets which are quite functional.  And of course they come in a wide variety of fabrics, which allows them to be worn for all different types of occasions.  Like I said, what’s not to love!

Printed pants have been seen all over the runways lately, and designers have been experimenting with all different types of prints and fabrics.  Below is a picture from 3.1 Phillip Lim’s spring/summer 2012 collection, in which the model is wearing a pair of psychadelic blue silk track pant type trousers.  On the runway, they styled the pants with a black silk tank top and a pink vest.  Now, I know what you’re thinking – how on earth can I pull pants like these off in real life?  I know guys, I feel your pain.  And I don’t know about you all, but that pink vest definitely intimidates me

Fear not, my fellow cheap chicers!  When wearing printed pants, just remember to keep the rest of your outfit simple.  Choose a print with colors that you like, in a fabric that you prefer.  Then pair the pants with a simple, light top for summer in a color found in the pants, or one that compliments it.

Let’s say you bought a pair of pants with a wild floral print.  You could pair them with a t-shirt in a color of one of the flowers let’s say, or something like a silk blouse.  And don’t forget about the fabric!  If your pants are silk, then pairing them with a silk shirt creates a nice uniform texture.  However, contrast also works wonders so pairing them with a denim shirt for example could also be quite striking.  Something that would be fun to try is pairing floral print jeans that have a white background with a white silk shirt.  Pairing the white elements together creates harmony that clashes wonderfully with the different textures and crazy versus plain visuals.  The high street store Topshop has plenty of fun printed pants this season (which you can buy online), and Zara makes a mean silk blouse!

When wearing printed pants, also remember to keep your accessories simple so that you don’t have too much going on in the outfit.  But see, I told you printed pants were amazing.  Now go out there Cheap Chicers and show the world how stylish I know you all are!
